Season of Creation

To Hope and Act with Creation

The Season of Creation, observed from September 1st to October 4th, is a sacred time for reflecting on the gift of creation and renewing our commitment to care for the environment. This year's theme, "To Hope and Act with Creation," calls us not only to appreciate the beauty and intricacies of the natural world but also to take bold steps in safeguarding it.

His Grace, the Archbishop of the Diocese of Polynesia, has issued a special invitation to all members of the Anglican communion in the province to come together in prayer and action for the health of creation. In the spirit of unity, the Archbishop encourages each community to look within their own regions and assess how they can contribute toward environmental care and restoration. Whether through simple lifestyle changes or collective efforts, the goal is clear: to restore, protect, and sustain the earth for future generations.

In line with this mission, our College is setting an example by actively participating in initiatives that promote resilience and environmental stewardship. Through our Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Resilience course, students are being empowered with the knowledge and skills to address the challenges brought by a changing climate. They are learning not only about the science of resilience but also about practical ways to build sustainable communities.

One notable project currently underway involves the planting of root crops and vegetables, a practice that supports food security while promoting local, sustainable agriculture. These small yet impactful efforts ensure that the community remains self-sufficient and resilient, even in the face of environmental uncertainties.

Moreover, the College has taken steps to reduce its environmental footprint by using natural light in offices during the day and relying on natural ventilation instead of air conditioning to conserve energy. These actions, though seemingly small, are part of a larger commitment to sustainability and the responsible use of resources.

It is also important to remember that caring for creation is not just a seasonal endeavor. Inspired by the Moana Water of Life II: From Lamentation to the Hope - Building Resilience conference held in August 2024, we are called to make this way of living a daily practice. The lessons from this conference remind us that resilience, hope, and mutual care must be at the heart of our approach to creation, not only during special seasons but as a continual act of faith and stewardship.

As we journey through this Season of Creation, may we find hope in the transformative power of small actions and the collective strength of our communities. Let us unite in prayer and in action, not only for the health of creation but for the flourishing of all life that depends on it. Now, more than ever, our world needs us to hope and act with creation.
