The Lay Minister Training program took another exciting step forward with a powerful session on the Overview of the Bible Story and The Justice and Righteousness of God. Led by esteemed theologians Dr. Rebecca Burgess and Dr. Andrew Burgess, this session brought together lay ministers from across the Diocese of Polynesia, fostering a deep and collective exploration of the sacred scriptures.

One of the unique aspects of this training was its hybrid format, enabling lay ministers from diverse locations to participate. While some joined in person from the Suva-Ovalau Archdeaconries and Vanua Levu, others connected virtually via Zoom from American Samoa, Samoa, Tonga, and Fiji. This inclusive approach ensured that more lay ministers had access to theological training, overcoming geographical barriers through digital connectivity.

Dr. Rebecca Burgess provided an enriching overview of the Bible, emphasizing its grand narrative—from creation, covenant, and prophecy to Christ’s redemptive work and the fulfillment of God’s kingdom. Lay ministers were encouraged to see the Bible not as isolated books but as a unified story of God’s love, faithfulness, and justice throughout history. Discussions highlighted the relevance of biblical narratives to contemporary ministry and the importance of understanding scripture holistically.

Dr. Andrew Burgess delved into the themes of divine justice and righteousness, and steadfast love, exploring how these attributes of God are woven throughout both the Old and New Testaments. He challenged lay ministers to consider how God's justice calls them to act in their communities—standing for the oppressed, advocating for peace, and living out righteousness in everyday life. Interactive discussions allowed participants to share insights and reflect on how they could embody God’s justice in their ministries.

The session was dynamic and interactive, with lay ministers engaging in deep discussions, sharing personal reflections, and asking thought-provoking questions. The opportunity to connect with fellow ministers from different cultural backgrounds enriched the dialogue, allowing participants to see how the principles of justice and righteousness apply uniquely within their contexts.

As the Lay Minister Training continues, participants are eager to build upon these foundational teachings. The program not only equips lay ministers with theological knowledge but also strengthens their calling to serve faithfully in their communities.

We are grateful for the leadership of Dr. Rebecca Burgess and Dr. Andrew Burgess, as well as for the dedication of all lay ministers who continue to commit themselves to God’s work.

Stay tuned for further updates as we journey together in faith and learning!
