The Primates of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia — Archbishops Don Tamihere, Sione Ulu’ilakepa, and Justin Duckworth — joined leaders from across the Communion in Canterbury this week for the historic installation of the Most Reverend and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, the first woman to hold the office in its 1,400-year history.

Representing Tikanga Māori, Tikanga Pasefika, and Tikanga Pākehā, the Primates each reflected on the significance of this moment. Archbishop Don Tamihere spoke of worship woven from many languages and cultures as a vision of indigenous faith flourishing. Archbishop Sione Ulu’ilakepa highlighted the enthronement on the Feast of the Annunciation as a day of promise and hope. Archbishop Justin Duckworth pointed to Archbishop Sarah’s walking pilgrimage to Canterbury as a sign of leadership grounded in presence and shared footsteps.

The service, to be attended by thousands and authorised by King Charles III, is a celebration of unity in diversity. Archbishop Sarah’s installation marks a new chapter for the Anglican Communion, calling all Tikanga to walk together in faith, courage, and love.
